Selena Gomez Receives Virtuoso Award in Innocent White Santoni Slingback Shoes at Santa Barbara Film Festival

Emilia Perez’ star Selena Gomez stood largely alone on Sunday night at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. As the Netflix project which also stars Karla Sofia Gascon and Zoe Saldana is the subject of controversy, Gomez picked up a Virtuoso Award from the event without Gascon who was supposed to accompany her. “Some of the magic has disappeared, but I choose to continue to be proud of what I’ve done,” she said on stage at the event, referring to the scandal.

Gomez chose an innocent all-white look for the honor. She wore a sleeveless Magda Butrym minidress featuring 30D floral detail. She also wore silver Messika rings.

For shoes, stylist Erin Walsh kept up with a silhouette that Gomez has been wearing a lot recently: a slingback pump. The star has been wearing them at least since she was promoting “Emilia Perez” at the Cannes International Film Festival. Her most recent pair were Santoni’s Audrey silhouette in white patent leather.

The Audrey is a Santoni slingback featuring a pointed toe and rounded vamp. Most notably, its slingback features a cutout on one side. As a result, the shoe has two side buckles, side by side making for a unique design. The insole features the Santoni branding and is lined in Santoni orange. While the Audrey comes in a variety of heights, Gomez chose the tallest stiletto coming in at almost five inches.

The sole is also the signature Santoni orange. Santoni, which is one of the oldest luxury footwear labels still in existence, is one of a handful of brands with signature sole colors. This includes Christian Louboutin with red, Rene Caovilla with a glittery “stardust,” as well as Betsey Johnson and Manc which both favor shades of blue.

Dermatologists' top tips for relieving dry skin

09:14 0

Simple changes can soothe dry skin

How to use baths and showers to relieve dry skin infographic

Baths and showers can worsen dry skin. You can prevent baths and showers from worsening dry skin by following these dermatologists' tips. Click the image above to download a PDF.

Following the same skin care routine year-round may not work so well when the humidity drops. Without a change in your skin care, dry air can make fine lines and wrinkles more noticeable. Dry, itchy skin can flake, crack, and even bleed.

To help heal dry skin and prevent its return, dermatologists recommend the following.

  1. Use 5- to 10-minute baths and showers to hydrate your dry skin. When the humidity drops or your skin feels dry, be sure to:

    • Close the bathroom door.
    • Use warm rather than hot water.
    • Limit your time in the shower or bath to 5 or 10 minutes.
    • Wash with a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser.
    • Apply enough cleanser to remove dirt and oil but avoid using so much that you see a thick lather.
    • Blot your skin gently dry with a towel.
    • Slather on the moisturizer immediately after drying your skin.

  2. Apply moisturizer immediately after washing. Ointments, creams, and lotions (moisturizers) work by trapping existing moisture in your skin. To trap this much-needed moisture, you need to apply a moisturizer within few minutes of:

    • Drying off after a shower or bath
    • Washing your face or hands

  3. Use an ointment or cream rather than a lotion. Ointments and creams are more effective and less irritating than lotions. Look for a cream or ointment that contains one or more of the following ingredients:

    • Jojoba oil
    • Dimethicone
    • Glycerin
    • Hyaluronic acid
    • Lactic acid
    • Lanolin
    • Mineral oil
    • Petrolatum
    • Shea butter.

  4. Wear lip balm or apply petroleum jelly to your lips. When choosing a lip balm, pick one that feels good on your lips. If your lips sting or tingle after you apply the lip balm, switch to one that does not cause this reaction.

  5. Use only gentle, fragrance-free skin care products. Some skin care products, such as deodorant soaps, are too harsh for dry, sensitive skin. Dermatologists recommend using products labeled "fragrance-free."

If you see the word "unscented," the product can contain chemicals that neutralize or hide the odors of other ingredients. These chemicals can irritate dry, sensitive skin.

  6. Wear gloves. Our hands are often the first place we notice dry skin. You can reduce dry, raw skin by putting on gloves before you:

    • Go outdoors in winter.
    • Perform tasks that require you to get your hands wet.
    • Get chemicals, greases, and other substances on your hands.

  7. Choose non-irritating clothes and laundry detergent. When our skin is dry and raw even clothes and laundry detergent can be irritating. To avoid this:

    • Wear cotton or silk under your clothing made of wool or another material that feels rough.
    • Use laundry detergent labeled “hypoallergenic.”

  8. Stay warm without cozying up to a fireplace or other heat source. Sitting in front of an open flame or other heat source can dry your skin.

  9. Add moisture to the air. Plug in a humidifier. If you can, check your home heating system to find out if you have a humidifier on the system — and whether it’s working.

When to see a board-certified dermatologist

Your skin should start to feel better quickly. If these changes do not bring relief, you may want to see a dermatologist. Very dry skin can require a prescription ointment or cream. Dry skin also can be a sign of a skin condition that needs treatment. A dermatologist can examine your skin and explain what can help reduce your discomfort.

Ugg President Anne Spangenberg on Why It’s ‘Pivotal To Challenge the Way Things Have Always Been’: Women Who Rock

09:33 0

Ugg president Anne Spangenberg believes learning experiences are crucial in shaping an inclusive environment.

“One thing I prioritize, and something everyone can do, is to give teams the opportunity to present and educate others on their expertise,” the Deckers Brands executive told FN. “Not every meeting or presentation has to be led by the leader. We welcome all opinions at all levels and see the value in crediting those responsible for the brand’s success.”

In addition to providing learning opportunities to promote rising female talent in the industry, Spangenberg noted that offering communities, forums, and development programs at all levels of leadership are crucial so that women can support, engage, and learn from each other.

“Electing and showcasing women with different backgrounds, strengths, and capabilities in top positions allows young leaders to see that there is not one singular model for success,” the footwear exec said. “As the next generation comes into the industry, it’s pivotal to challenge the way things have always been to create space for experiences, ideas, and voices that we don’t always hear.”

As for how to empower the next generation, Spangenberg said that leaders have to intentionally create inclusive cultures where people feel compelled to bring their voices, experience, and ideas to the tables.

“That’s where creativity is born, and that’s just smart business,” she maintained. “Secondly, we have to promote the mindset that everyone can be a leader regardless of their job title, education level, or age. We don’t, and shouldn’t, have one narrow model for success. It’s our responsibility to empower the next generation to be authentically themselves and use their voice. All it takes is one great idea, and it can come from anyone.”
